![]() 10th Mountain Infantry Division The 10th Mountain Infantry Division was one of the most celebrated outfits of World War II. They were elite soldiers, selected for their experience at skiing and mountain climbing and highly trained in the demanding terrain around Camp Hale, Colorado. After training at Camp Hale for several years, the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division were shipped to Camp Swift in Texas for additional training with heavy weapons. The 10th was the last division sent to Europe in WWII, arriving in Italy in early January of 1945. Compared to many other units, they served in combat for a very short time, but they took on some of the toughest assignments of the warn and suffered an unusually high percentage of casualties. 1.
