Chapter 26: I'm going to come back In Chapter 26, John comes home on furlough before being sent overseas. 1. We do not know if Johnny read the article about the Lukkarinen family. It was in the Mining Journal at that time and it illustrates how many families suffered losses during the war. 2. The conversation between Bobby Emanuelson and John are based on interviews with Bobby Emmanuelson. 3. The conversation between John and his niece "Nonny" is based on an interview with Martha "Nonny" Bennett. 4. The conversations between Lilly and John and between John and Edna Mae are reconstructed based on Edna Mae's memory of events. However, John did give his watch to Edna Mae for safe keeping.
