Chapter 38: Some uncertainty exists Chapter 38 continues the account of the ill-fated mission to Vienna. 1. The account of dropping the bombs on Knittelfeldand the limerick on the log book are based on interviews with Oscar Koski. Oscar even remembered the limerick and recited it to the author, but it was a bit bawdy, so will not be quoted here in full. Somewhere in the vast archives of the the U.S. Army Air Force, that log book may still exist. If it does, on the pages for the mission of January 21st, 1945 it contains some scribbled notes from a young Oscar Koski, including a limerick that starts “There once was a man from Trieste...” Media and Web links: 1. Figure 38-2 Video: Oscar tells the rest of the story. |
