Chapter 50: Until the day I die
In Chapter 50, F-85 holds positions on Mount Della Spe.
1. The incident at the low wall as recounted by Phil Lane, a veteran of F-85. We do not know if Johnny was on that patrol.
2. The quote from James Orwig's diary is from him.
3. The conversation between Johnny and Shapley is fictionalized, but many of the F-85 veterans fondly the remember frying potatoes in bacon grease from a 10-in-1 ration.
