At local time 10:30 a.m. on February 27, 2014, the tremendous roars of dozens of heavy-duty dump trucks and bulldozers signaled the start of closing off the more than five-meter-wide gap of the Jubones River. After several rounds of dumping, thousands of tons of huge rocks and gabions were poured into the closure gap, quickly damming the river. The river closure was completed at 5:20 p.m., marking completion of the overall project preparation for dam construction for the Minas–San Francisco Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as the project’s successful entrance into its principal construction stage.
