On October 9th, 2015, the Pakistan Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Plant EPC Project contracted by Harbin Electric International (HEI) launched its commencement ceremony. The contract for this EPC turnkey project was signed by Chairman of HEI Mr. Guo Yu and the Pakistan Quaid-E-Azam Electrical Company on September 22nd, 2015, which marks the first overseas 209HA H-Class Combined Cycle Power Plant with the largest capacity and the highest efficiency ever contracted to be built by a Chinese enterprise. The commencement ceremony was attended by representatives including President of Pakistan Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Punjab Province Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Lahore Mr. Yu Boren, Vice President of the HE Corporation Mr. Wu Weizhang and Vice President of HEI Mr. Wang Shimin.

At the commencement ceremony, President of Pakistan Mr. Nawaz Sharif made an important speech in which he fully affirmed the outstanding contributions made by the HE Corporation to the power development of Pakistan over the years. Vice President of the HE Corporation Mr. Wu Weizhang appreciated the trust and support offered by the Pakistan Government to the HE Corporation over the years, and expressed that HE would be bound to make persistent efforts to build the Owner a high-quality and high-level international first-class power plant.

The Pakistan Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Plant will be located approximately 60 km west of Lahore in Punjab Province, giving it a good geographical position convenient for transportation. The plant will incorporate a 2+2+1 configuration with a total capacity of 1180MW, comprising 2 9HA gas turbines, 2 HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) units and 1 steam turbine generator. The 9HA gas turbine is GE’s latest gas turbine technology, which drew lessons from the advanced cooling and materials technology of the aero-engine field and stands as an outstanding representative of energy-saving, high-efficiency and emission-reducing gas turbines in the current gas turbine generation field. The work scope of this EPC contract includes (without limitation) the supply of BTG and the balance of the plant, design, construction, installation, commissioning, testing, training and technology services.

To date, HEI has undertaken 9 large-scale power plant projects in Pakistan, five of which are combined cycle power plants. The Pakistan Bhikki Project further consolidates HEI’s leading position in the contracting of combined cycle power plant projects in Pakistan, and lays a solid foundation for HEI to further explore Pakistan’s electricity market and combined cycle power plant projects in other countries.
