During Sept. 18-20, 2017, HE’s President Wu Weizhang, in the company of Wang Shimin, Vice President of HEI, came to Azerbaijan and paid visits to Natik· Abasov, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, Uger·Shamuladov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Energy Construction Company and Akym·Badalov, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Agency of Azerbaijan, respectively, and held interviews concerned.

In the conversation with the Vice Minister Natik·Abasov, both parties had a deep exchange on the cooperation in the potential investment projects and the old unit renovation project in the energy field of Azerbaijan, and reached a consensus on widening the cooperation field.

In the conversation with Uger·Shamuladov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Energy Construction Company, both parties had a wide exchange on the hydropower project cooperation. Uger·Shamuladov also gave a high evaluation on the turbine generator renovation project in an old power plant completed by HE.

Later, Wu Weizhang met Akym. Badalov, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Agency of Azerbaijan, and introduced HE’s development capability in new energy field in the backdrop of Azerbaijan’s great efforts in advancing development of renewable energy in recent years. Both parties reached unanimous agreements in wind power and solar power project cooperation.

Wu Weizhang’s tour to Azerbaijan enhanced the cooperation between HE and the owner’s companies, promoted the potential project development progress of Azerbaijan in the energy field, further expanded HE’s influence on the power market and on the government of Azerbaijan, and helped understand Azerbaijan’s power energy policy and development trend, playing a very important role in promoting HE’s Azerbaijan’s power market development.

Azerbaijan is located at the juncture of Europe and Asia. With such a geographical position and environment, it has been an important transit country connecting Europe and Asia since ancient times, and is now a major one in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Moreover, Azerbaijan boasts rich oil and gas resources, and is equipped with great power development potential, and neighbors Russia and Turkey as well as other major powers in the region, meaning great potentials of power export to neighboring countries. This visit headed by President Wu plays a very important role in promoting HE’s development and expansion in the power market in Azerbaijan and Russian-speaking regions.
